18 February 2022, Calgary - Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron paid a courtesy call on Mayor Jyoti Gondek of the City of Calgary on 17 February 2022 at Calgary’s Historic City Hall.

Consul General Patron congratulated Mayor Gondek for being the first woman to become Mayor of Calgary following her victory at the municipal elections held in October 2021.

During their discussion, Consul General Patron highlighted the positive contributions of the 75,000-strong Filipino community to the City of Calgary. He said many of them were healthcare workers and essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, he noted the increasing number of Filipino-owned businesses that contribute to the city’s economic growth. He also pointed out that Philippine companies, such as the fast-food chain Jollibee, have become investors in Calgary.

Consul General Patron sought Mayor Gondek’s support for an easier process for the recognition of credentials of Philippine-educated Filipino nurses who can contribute more to the city’s healthcare system.

Consul General Patron and Mayor Gondek also discussed potential cooperation in other areas, such as energy and aerospace industries END.
