4 October, Calgary – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary thanked the Philippine Business Society of Alberta (PBSA) for organizing the “Pinoy Breakfast” fundraising event in Edmonton, Alberta on 23 September 2018 for the victims of Typhoon Ompong.
Amidst the cold weather that day, Filipino-Canadians and Canadian nationals came to the open Heritage Parking Lot in Northwest Edmonton to share breakfast and donate C$5.00 each. Many individuals, private companies and groups also gave additional donations to support the event.
The PBSA continued to receive donations after the event. According to Mr. Celso Andrade, PBSA President, the PBSA will give all proceeds to the Canadian Red Cross for its Typhoon Ompong relief efforts in the Philippines.
Deputy Consul General Zaldy Patron, who represented Consul General Gilberto Asuque at the event, gave credit to the organizers, volunteers and supporters of the Pinoy Breakfast as he emphasized that the financial donation would matter a lot for the typhoon victims. He expressed hope that the PBSA’s initiative would inspire others to assist the Typhoon Ompong victims.
Alberta Minister for Labor and Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal Christina Gray, for her part, expressed her sympathies for the typhoon victims and commended the Albertans for coming together to help the typhoon victims in the Philippines.
