Calgary, 22 May 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary (PCG Calgary), in partnership with the Philippine Arts Council are pleased to announce a joint art exhibition entitled “Contemplating the Tapestry of Filipino - Canadian Connections” that will run from 3 to 29 June 2024 at the Dr. José Rizal Hall of PCG Calgary. The exhibit is in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Philippine - Canada bilateral relations.
The exhibition, the third such exhibit held at the premises of PCG Calgary since 2022, highlights the art works of 13 Filipino - Canadian artists as well as selected students from the Fr. Oscar Romero High School, all of whom are based in Edmonton, Alberta.
The exhibition provides an appreciation of the journey that Filipino - Canadian artists experience in their creative process and how, through their art, are able to build bridges here in Canada.
The over 20 pieces of art that will grace the Rizal Hall have been curated by Ms. Ida Beltran Lucila of the Philippine Arts Council, based in Edmonton, Alberta. Established in 2016, the Philippine Arts Council's main objective is the promotion and development of Philippine art and culture, and the Filipino artists living in Canada. The pieces provide a glimpse of how Filipino Canadian artists are able to tap into their unique Filipino heritage and integrate the expression of these impulses in the Canadian context.
The exhibition will run from 3 to 29 June 2024, Monday to Fridays, except for declared public holidays, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary with address Suite 100 1001 1st St SE, Calgary, Alberta, T2G 5G3. Entrance is free.
