10 November 2021, Calgary – Consul General Zaldy Patron visited the University of Alberta (U of A) in Edmonton, Alberta, on 1 November 2021 and met with its President and Vice Chancellor Bill Flanagan.
During their meeting, Consul General Patron thanked President Flanagan for accepting three scholars of the Philippine Department of Science and Technology (DOST) so far under the Graduate Scholarship Program (GSP) that U of A and DOST signed in March 2019.
President Flanagan, on the other hand, thanked Consul General Patron for helping facilitated the partnership between the DOST and U of A.
Following the signing of the said agreement, the Edmonton-based university, one the of the top universities in Canada, has seen an increased number of Filipino students applying for post-graduate programs in U of A.
Consul General Patron and President Flanagan also discussed other potential areas of cooperation between the Philippines and U of A.
At present, the three DOST scholars, who all started their programs in U of A this year, are Mr. Danielito Dollete (MSc, Plant Science), Ms. Shienna Marie Pontillas (PhD, Materials Engineering), and Karla Cristina Pagao Cruz (MSc, Biochemistry).
Prior to meeting President Flanagan, Consul General Patron met the DOST scholars to inform them about the PCG’s contribution to the signing of the GSP, which has allowed them to study in U of A. He also briefed them about the other services and programs of the PCG.
“I hope that many more Filipino graduate students will consider studying in U of A for their post-graduate programs and apply for DOST scholarship under the DOST-U of A Graduate Scholarship Program,” Consul General said after his visit to U of A.
