Calgary – Consul General Gilberto Asuque calls on the Hon. Kent J. Hehr, P.C., Member of
Parliament for Calgary Centre, at the MP’s constituency office, to introduce
the services of the Consulate General for Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians in
Calgary.
Consul General Asuque
informed Mr. Hehr that there are about 75,000 Filipinos in Calgary and about
6,000 Filipinos in the MP’s riding of Calgary Centre. The Consul General also informed MP Hehr that
based on the 2016 data from Statistics Canada, there are 175,130 Filipinos in Alberta and 33,625
Filipinos in Saskatchewan He discussed
with Mr. Hehr the establishment of the Consulate General in Calgary in 2016 and
the consular services for all the clients in the Provinces of Alberta and
Saskatchewan, its consular jurisdiction.
The Consul General and Mr.
Hehr looked at opportunities for cooperation between the Philippines and
Alberta Province in manpower resources for industries and other service-oriented
businesses in Calgary as well as the source of LNG and LPG from Alberta for the
fuel requirements of the Philippines.
Mr. Hehr expressed his
admiration for the Filipinos in his constituency and thanked them for their
dedication and commitment to their work.
Mr. Hehr, who is a quadriplegic after an accident in October 1991, recalls with great fondness and appreciation
the care and support by his caregiver Flordeliza during the recovery and
rehabilitation phase of his injury. END
Mr. Hehr practiced law at the prestigious
national firm, Fraser Milner Casgrain (now Dentons), and became an active
community leader, working with the United Way and heading the Alberta branch of
the Canadian Paraplegic Association. In 2008 he won as a Member of the
Legislative Assembly to represent the constituency of Calgary-Buffalo in the
Alberta Legislature, a seat he successfully defended in 2012.
