Calgary, 13 July 2023 – Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron graced Almusal 2023 (Filipino Stampede Breakfast) on 9 July 2023, the third day of the 10-day Calgary Stampede happening from 7 to 16 July.

First organized in 1912 and dubbed as the "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth," the Calgary Stampede is more than century-old tradition and festivities in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, attracting over one million visitors per year. It features one of the world's largest rodeos, a parade stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibitions.

 During the 10-day festivities, various establishments in different parts of the city host their respective Calgary Stampede breakfasts where people line up for free food and coffee.

 

At the Almusal 2023, about 3,500 people were treated to free Filipino breakfast of fried rice, pan de sal, longaniza, hotdog, scrambled egg, and coffee. Lechon (roasted pig) was also served during the occasion.

 

“Through the Almusal 2023, the Filipino community was able to show its solidarity with the City of Calgary as the city celebrated its biggest festivities of the year. It was also an opportunity to introduce the Calgarians to Filipino breakfast and food,” said Consul General Patron.

 

Among the dignitaries who came at Almusal 2023 were the Hon. Blake Richards (Member of Parliament for Banff-Airdrie), Minister of Energy and Minerals Brian Jean, Minister of Justice Mickey Amery, and some Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

 

Ms. Patti Pon, Board Member of Calgary Stampede (a non-profit organization) and President & CEO of Calgary Arts Development, was also present.

 

Almusal 2023 was organized by Pacific Hut Restaurant, PH Bakers, Sulong Kalayaan Society, Sarap Hotdog, Centre 17, APO Products Ltd./UNO Foods Inc., Radio Pinoy Calgary, and Hong Kong Supermarket.
