7 September, Calgary – Consul
General Gilberto Asuque and Deputy Consul General Zaldy Patron met with the
officials of University of Alberta (UAlberta) International in Edmonton,
Alberta on 5 September 2018 to explore partnership between Philippine universities
and UAlberta. The two sides agreed to look into possible areas of cooperation
the fields of agriculture, animal science and crop science as well as oil and
gas.

Calgary and UAlberta also discussed potential cooperation on smart city
development within the framework of ASEAN Smart City Network, which is
currently being discussed in ASEAN.
UAlberta has experts on certain smart technologies (e.g. transportation)
and the City of Edmonton has many best practices as a smart city that can be
studied and replicated in the Philippines and ASEAN. Canada is one of the
Dialogue Partners of ASEAN.
