13 November 2018, Calgary - Consul General Gilberto Asuque called on Mr. Darshan Singh Kang, MP currently sitting as an Independent in the House of Commons of Canada representing Calgary Skyview.
The Consul General met MP Kang (photo left) at his constituency office in North East Calgary to introduce the Philippine Consulate General to MP Kang who has some 8,500 Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians in his riding of Calgary Skyview, which was created in 2012. The Consul General informed MP Kang that Calgary PCG was established in March 2016 to provide all types of consular services for some 75,000 Filipinos and Filipino-Canadians residing in the city. He also informed MP Kang that Calgary PCG has jurisdiction over Alberta Province with a Filipino population of some 185,000 and Saskatchewan with some 33,000 Filipinos.
According to the Canada 2011 census, Calgary Skyview has a population of 110,189 residents of which 7.8% are Filipinos and 4.4% speak Tagalog. MP Kang said some 43,000 electors in his riding voted in the last elections.
The Consul General informed MP Kang of the consular services for Filipinos and other clients including the opportunity for former Filipinos who have become Canadian citizens to reacquire Philippine citizenship. He offered to speak to the Filipinos in Calgary Skyview on all consular issues should MP Kang hold a forum for his constituency. MP Kang said he would be pleased organize a forum for his Filipino and Filipino-Canadian constituents in Calgary Skyview to discuss their consular requirements.
