Calgary, 7 July 2023 – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) successfully led a
Philippine Education Mission to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on 28 June to 1 July
2023.
The
Philippine Delegation was composed of the officials of CHED, Don Mariano Marcos
Memorial State University (DMMSU), Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU),
and University of Eastern Philippines (UEP).
Ms. Zyrile Gomez, Executive Assistant, Office
of the Chairperson, represented CHED. The members of the Philippine Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs), on the other hand, were as follows: Dr. Mario
Briones, President, and Dr. Alberto Yazon, Director for Quality Assurance
(LSPU); Dr. Elsie Pacho, Vice President for Academic Affairs (DMMSU); Dr. Nelia
Adora, Vice President for External Affairs, and Dr. Karina Milagros Lim, Vice
President for Research, Development, & Extension (UEP).
During
the visit to Saskatoon, the Philippine Delegation met with the representatives
of the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and the University
of Regina.
They
exchanged information about their respective institutions and programs. Likewise,
they agreed to pursue various forms of cooperation and partnerships among
themselves, including exchange of students, faculty, and researchers.
At the University of
Saskatchewan, the Philippine Delegation participated in three roundtable meetings on the topics of Health Sciences, Food
Security, and Energy Security.
Capping
the visit was the Meet and Greet event hosted by the Filipino Canadian
Association of Saskatchewan (FILCAS) on 30 June 2023 for the Philippine
Delegation. About 40 FILCAS members and guests met with
the delegates.
Consul General Zaldy Patron and Consul, a.h. Pepito Escanlar, joined and assisted the members of the Philippine Delegation during the Education Mission.
