Asuque joined the Filipino community in Edmonton at the celebration of the 121st
Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence at a gala dinner
organized by the Congress of the Philippine Association of Alberta (COPAA).
In his remarks, Consul General Asuque stressed the
significance of the celebration under the
theme Kalayaan 2019: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang
Kinabukasan especially in the light of the economic, social and cultural
programs of the Philippines that address the needs and challenges of the
Filipinos including overseas Filipinos.
He also emphasized that the COPAA-organized
Independence Day celebration coincides with the observance of Philippine
Heritage Month in Alberta and all over Canada every June of each year. The Provincial Government of Alberta declared
June of each year as Philippine Heritage Month to recognize the significant contributions of
Filipino-Canadians to the social, economic, cultural and historical richness of
the Province. The Proclamation
added that “the Province of Alberta
values diversity and Filipino-Canadians in Alberta represent a vibrant and
dynamic component of our cultural mosaic.”
Consul General Asuque encouraged the Filipino
community and COPAA to bring to the next level of significance their annual
celebration of Philippine Independence Day and Philippine Heritage Month in
Alberta by focusing of the valuable contributions of the Filipinos to the
economic, cultural and social fabric of the Province.
He congratulated Mr. Jose “Jun” Angeles, COPAA
President, and the members and volunteers of COPAA, for the successful
celebration the 121st Philippine Independence and the Philippine
Heritage Month
