Calgary, 30 May 2024 – Consul General Zaldy B. Patron of the Philippine Consulate
General in Calgary concluded his almost five year tour of duty as Philippine Consul
General by calling on various officials of the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan to
thank them for the support that they provided in the fulfillment of the various initiatives
undertaken during his tenure.
From 16 to 17 April 2024, Consul General Patron called on various officials of the
province of Saskatchewan, including Lt. Governor Russell Mirastry, and Minister for
Advanced Education Gordon Wyant. During his calls on these officials, he thanked them
for their support in the Consulate General’s various initiatives such as the credentials
recognition in Canada, and the various education initiatives between the Department of
Science and Technology, the Commission on Higher Education, and various Philippine
State Universities with Saskatchewan.

Consul General Patron called on officials from Alberta on 25 and 30 April and 1 May
2024 in Edmonton and in Calgary, wherein he met with Alberta Lt. Governor Salma
Lakhani, Speaker Nathan Cooper of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Energy Brian
Jean, Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister for Advanced Education
Rajan Sawhney, Minister for Immigration and Multiculturalism Muhammad Yaseen and
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. During his meetings with Premier Smith and the various
provincial officials of Alberta, Consul General Patron thanked them in assisting the
Consulate in various initiatives such as PH - Alberta MOU on the recruitment of Filipino
Nurses, which was signed on 6 October 2022, and the various initiatives of the
Consulate in economic, energy, cultural and education diplomacy, which he stated will
continue to be priorities of the Consulate General.
Consul General Patron also called on local officials such as the Mayors of Calgary,
Edmonton and Airdrie, Alberta and Regina, Saskatchewan wherein he thanked them for
their continued support to the Filipino communities under their jurisdiction. In his call on
Airdrie’s Mayor Peter Brown, he thanked the Mayor and the city council for their support
in the establishment of the very first Dr. Jose Rizal monument in the province of Alberta
in October 2021.
Consul General Patron concluded his tour of duty on 5 May 2024.
