Calgary, 16 May 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in
Calgary will host an exhibit for the
whole month of June 2023 featuring the artworks of several up-and-coming
Filipino-Canadian artists based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The exhibit, entitled “Malaya” (Freedom), will
showcase more than 20 art pieces of six artists, namely, Day Pajarilla, Audere
Santos, Thea Galang, Ryle Ramirez, Gladzy Kei, and the Filipinx Kasaganaan
Artist Collective of Calgary. They will feature artworks in various styles and
genres expressing their ideas of “freedom.”
“We are pleased to organize this month-long
event to highlight our Filipino artists in Calgary. Through this platform, we
hope that their creativity will be better appreciated by the general public,”
said Consul General Zaldy B. Patron.
The exhibit is part of the PCG’s celebration of
the 125th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence as
well as the Filipino Heritage Month in Alberta and Saskatchewan this June.
This marks the second time that the PCG will
host an art exhibit following the “Alaala” exhibit that it held in September to
October 2022 that featured two Filipino artists from Regina, Saskatchewan.
The PCG will soon announce a registration link
for those interested to visit the Malaya Exhibit.
