07 October 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary successfully
concluded the second edition of “Manila Comes to Town” Food Truck Festival on 02
October 2024 at the parking lot of Holiday Inn Conference Centre Edmonton South in
Edmonton, Alberta.
This year’s edition featured popular Filipino fast food chain Potato Corner, and
returning Edmonton-based Filipino food truck, 6 A’s & J Food Truck which sells
traditional Manila street food. Leduc-based GenTea, serving bubble tea with well-loved
Filipino flavours, and Calgary-based food truck, Chopstix Curbside Dining, which
featured its famous La Paz Batchoy and other traditional Filipino fare, also took part in
the two-day event. The Food Festival was held in conjunction with the PCG’s consular
outreach mission in Edmonton from 02 to 04 October 2024.
Edmonton’s 6A’s and J served popular Filipino street food “barbeque”, “kwek-kwek”, and “isaw” with rice.
PCG Calgary Consul General Emma R. Sarne mentioned that the number of
participating Filipino-owned F&B establishments in the second year of the “Manila
Comes To Town” Food Truck Festival is a testament to the growing awareness of
Filipino cuisine in Alberta. “This project also serves as an opportunity to support
Filipino-owned businesses, and it is doubly significant that we promote these
noteworthy Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurs as we celebrate 75 years of Philippines -
Canada diplomatic relations,” she added.
