Calgary, AB – The Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) and the Philippine Consulate General in
Calgary are pleased to announce the return of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) for its
third edition. Similar to previous years, the event will once again be executed by the Philippine Embassy
in Ottawa and the Philippine Consulates General (PCG) in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. Throughout
the month of April, participating restaurants will showcase prix fixe menus celebrating a diverse array of
authentic dishes, ingredients and culinary expertise of Filipino chefs across Canada.
“Our 3rd FRMC this year has a special significance as it will also serve as our platform to celebrate the
75th Anniversary of the Philippines-Canada Diplomatic Relations,” Consul General Zaldy Patron
remarked. “Through our rich, delectable, and diverse Filipino cuisine, we would like the Canadians to
know the Filipinos and the Philippines better,” he added.
Last year, the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada was a resounding success with 47 restaurants across
eight (8) Canadian provinces and 21 cities participating in the month-long event serving prix fixe menus to
FRMC diners to introduce them to the Philippine’s diverse cuisine and culture. In addition, over 100 diners
won national and local prizes which were generously offered by FRMC’s sponsors.
As the FRMC continues to grow, we hope to include more restaurants in efforts to showcase and highlight
the evolving Filipino community and culinary industry. The list of participating restaurants has not yet
been finalized but will be shared and updated on the official FRMC website at
https://www.filipinorestaurantmonth.ca/ in the coming weeks.
“With the first two editions of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada creating more than 120 million total
media impressions and almost $7 million in total media ad value, we hope to sustain our concerted
promotion for our Filipino cuisine and support our participating restaurants across Canada,” said Consul
General Patron. Additionally, Tourism Attaché Soleil Tropicales expressed the support of the Philippine
Department of Tourism to the FRMC 2024 that will highlight the new tourism campaign, Love the
Philippines by showing how our love for Filipino cuisine will inspire travel to the Philippines.
For the first time, this year’s press conference will be held in-person only at the Philippine Consulate
General in Calgary. The press conference is scheduled on March 18 th to officially launch the annual event
and announce the participating restaurants. The press conference will also provide local partners and
media an opportunity to connect with the Filipino community in Calgary, taste the dishes, host interviews,
and more. In attendance will be representatives from the PDOT, Philippine Foreign Posts in Canada, and
participating restaurants.
With the partnership and support of generous Philippine and Canadian-based sponsors, customers of the
FRMC will once again have an opportunity to win local and national prizes. The prizes will range from free
domestic travel and hotel accommodation in the Philippines to $25-$100 vouchers for participating
restaurants, and more. More information and further instructions will be announced in the near future.
