paid a courtesy call on Edmonton Mayor
Don Iveson on 15 July 2020 in Edmonton City Hall.
Consul General Patron informed Mayor Iveson about the increasing
investments of Philippine companies in his city with the opening of Jollibee
and Potato Corner branches in Edmonton last year. Seafood City Supermarket, which is owned by a
Filipino-American family, also opened a branch in Edmonton on 16 July 2020.
Consul General Patron highlighted to Mayor Iveson that these investments and
the other businesses of Filipino-Canadians in Edmonton were creating jobs for
the Edmontonians and supporting the local economy.
Consul General Patron and Mayor Iveson exchanged ideas
on how to continue to support the Philippine businesses in Edmonton.
Consul General Patron also briefed Mayor Iveson about the Graduate Scholarship Program signed by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Edmonton-based University of Alberta last year. The program will allow DOST-SEI scholars to study master’s and doctoral degrees in University of Alberta.
