– In a meeting held on 6 November 2019 at the University of Calgary (UCalgary),
Consul General Zaldy Patron and UCalgary President and Vice-Chancellor Dr.
Edward McCauley had a fruitful discussion about the various initiatives that
the two sides have been pursuing since last year as well as new potential areas
of cooperation.
Consul General Patron thanked UCalgary
for receiving the Department of Energy (DOE) delegation on 21 October 2019. The
DOE and UCalgary talked about possible energy-related trainings and advance
courses that UCalgary could provide for the DOE officials.
Consul General Patron and Dr. McCauley
also reviewed the status of the cooperation proposals that would link UCalgary
with Philippine agencies, such as the Department of Science and Technology and
the National Economic Development Authority, and the University of the
Philippines.
Likewise, the two officials exchanged
ideas on space science and technology, and Philippine studies program as possible
new areas of cooperation between the Philippines and UCalgary.
After the meeting, Consul General Patron said, “I am optimistic that the Philippine Consulate General’s relations with UCalgary would bear fruit and lead to productive cooperation between the university and the Philippines. I also welcome the interest of UCalgary to become more connected with the Filipino community in Calgary and we will assist UCalgary in realizing this objective.”
