Calgary, 25 October 2022 – In a webinar organized by the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary on 19 October 2022, Filipino entrepreneurs in Alberta and Saskatchewan were given free advice on how to start businesses in Canada.
The webinar featured Filipino-Canadian lawyer Atty. Henry Villanueva, a senior business lawyer at the national law firm of Lindsey MacCarthy LLP, who discussed the basic steps in opening businesses in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Atty. Vilanueva discussed the possible business structures if one would like to start a business in Canada and the considerations for business registration and setting up of a corporation in conformity with the provincial and federal laws. Likewise, he gave advice on matters related to the governance of a company and the roles of company shareholders, directors, and officers.
The corporate lawyer also touched on matters related to the financing of a company as well as on landlord and tenancy agreements.
Lastly, he dwelt on the hiring of employees or independent contractors.
“We are encouraged by the increase in the number of Filipino entrepreneurs in Alberta and Saskatchewan so we thought of doing this webinar to guide our aspiring entrepreneurs on how to start their businesses in Canada,” said Consul General Zaldy B. Patron.
