The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary has a new
Consul General in the person of Mr. Gilberto G.B. Asuque.
Consul General Asuque is a senior
diplomat in the Philippine Foreign Service having begun his appointment in the
Department of Foreign Affairs in December 1986. He started his tour-of-duty in Calgary on 1
May 2018.
Prior to his current position, Consul
General Asuque was the Deputy Chief of Mission and Permanent Representative of
the Philippines to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Related
Inter-Governmental Organizations, at the Philippine Embassy in London, from 14
March 2016 to 30 April 2018. He also
served as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo from 22
February to 13 March 2016.
He
was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the
Philippines to the Republic of Lebanon from 2009 to 2011. Prior to his ambassadorial post, Mr. Asuque
served as Charge d’ Affaires, a.i. and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy
in Tel Aviv, Israel from 2006 to 2009.
His
other assignments in the Philippine Foreign Service include as Assistant
Secretary for Ocean Concerns, Assistant Secretary for Public Information and Spokesman
of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Permanent
Representative to the IMO, and Vice Consul in Australia.
Consul
General Asuque holds a Master of Laws in
International Maritime Law (Ll.M.) at the International Maritime Law Institute
of the IMO, Master of Arts in Maritime Policy (M.A.M.P.) at the Greenwich
Maritime Institute, University of Greenwich, London; Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B.), College of Law, University
of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City; and Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration, (B.S.B.A.) Major in Marketing, University of the East, Manila.
Atty. Asuque is a member in good standing of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines. He is also a Board Member of the Maritime Law Association of the Philippines
