1 December 2020, Calgary – The Philippine Consulate General
(PCG) in Calgary conducted on 28 November 2020, Saturday, the oath-taking
ceremonies for 82 former Filipinos who applied for Philippine
citizenship re-acquisition and retention under Republic Act 9225 or the
Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003.
RA9225 allows natural-born Filipinos who were naturalized in other countries to re-acquire
or retain their Philippine citizenship after undergoing the procedure provided
for under the said law.
The weekend oath-taking took place at the PCG office on a staggered basis from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Physical distancing, wearing of masks, and other public health measures were strictly implemented and observed by the PCG personnel and the oath-takers.
In conducting the
special oath-taking ceremony on a weekend, Consul General Zaldy Patron said,
“We noticed a surge in the number of RA9225 applications since the start of the
pandemic so we decided to fast-track the processing of their applications by
inviting some applicants to take their oath on a Saturday.”
Aside from conducting
special oath-taking for RA9225 applicants on selected Saturdays, PCG Calgary have
also moved its oath-taking ceremony from twice-a-week pre-pandemic to daily
during the pandemic albeit with a maximum limit of 10 applicants.
