13 January 2022, Calgary – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary and the Binhi ng Lahi Folk Dance Troupe have once again collaborated on another cultural project “Sayaw Filipinas,” which capped a successful partnership between the two organizations in 2021.
Streamed on the Binhi ng Lahi Facebook page and shared on the PCG’s Facebook page on 30 December 2021, the online dance recital “Sayaw Filipinas” was a tour de force of various Philippine folk dances as performed not only by Binhi ng Lahi, but also by various Filipino dance groups from Canada and the Philippines.
Performing alongside the Binhi ng Lahi were the Kababayang Pilipino (Vancouver, British Columbia), PAMANA ng LuzViMinda Philippine Folkloric Dance Company (Montreal, Quebec), Maharlika Diva (Calgary, Alberta), Philippine Baranggay Folk
Dance Troupe (Manila, Philippines), and Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild (Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines).
The groups performed and showcased the following Philippine folk dances from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao: Pastores Bool, Tarektek, Chalichog and Bumayah, Paligo / Banga, Lanceros de Tayabas, Malagueña, Putritos, Jota Caviteña, Kinakulangan, Kadal Tahu, Dugso, Asik, Singkil, Pandanggo sa Bulig, Karatong, Pandanggo sa Ilaw, and Oasioas.
It marked the second year in a row that Binhi ng Lahi had conducted an online dance recital due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The PCG thanks the Binhi ng Lahi for its active efforts to showcase the beauty and richness of Philippine culture, through our folk dances, and we are pleased to be one of its major partners for Sayaw Filipinas,” Consul General Zaldy Patron remarked about the PCG’s latest joint project with the Binhi ng Lahi.
