Calgary, 1 April 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary marked the start of the Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) with a lunch hosted by Consul General Zaldy Patron for Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and her husband Mr. Todd Gondek at the Pacific Hut Restaurant in Calgary, Alberta.
Pacific Hut Restaurant is one of the 40 participating restaurants of the FRMC, which is taking place across Canada the whole month of April 2022.
Ms. Linda Gerson, Editor-in-Chief of Culinaire Magazine, a culinary magazine in Alberta, was also among Consul General Patron’s guests.
During the lunch, Consul General Patron shared with his guests that the FRMC is being jointly implemented by the Philippine Posts in Canada and the Philippine Department of Tourism to raise the profile of the Filipino cuisine and the Filipino restaurants in Canada. He also gave a brief description of the dishes that comprised the prix-fixe menu of the restaurant.

Among the Filipino dishes that Mayor Gondek, Mr. Gondek and Ms. Gerson enjoyed at the Pacific Hut Restaurant were lumpiang shanghai (pork spring roll), lumpiang gulay (veggie spring roll), bistek tagalog (Filipino beef steak), chicken Bacolod, fish fillet rebusado, ginataan bilo-bilo (sticky rice balls in coco milk), buko pandan, leche flan, and halo-halo.
