Calgary, 7 December 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary and the Binhi ng Lahi Philippine Folk Dance Troupe, a Calgary-based Filipino dance group, have again partnered for the second season of “Sining Filipinas: International Online Lecture Series.”

Season 2 of the Sining Filipinas will have seven episodes that will educate the public about Philippine dance, culture, arts, and heritage.

The first episode “Western Influenced Dances” was live streamed on 25 November 2022 on the Binhi ng Lahi’s Facebook page and shared by the PCG on its own Facebook page.

The PCG and Binhi ng Lahi initially collaborated for the first season of the Sining Filipinas that ran from 2020 to 2021.

For Season 2, Sining Filipinas will feature Western influenced dances and folk dances from the Cordillera region, Bangsamoro region, and from the rural and countrysides of the Philippines.

Some of the dances to be featured are Banga and Ngilin (Cordillera); Paseo de Iloilo, Sayaw sa Cuyo, and Panderetas (Western Influenced Dances); Pindulas, Janggay, and Kadal Tahu (Bangsamoro); Tinikling, Binasuan, Bulaklakan, and Pastores Talisay (rural and countryside).

Centro Escolar University Folk Dance Troupe will join Binhi ng Lahi in showcasing these dances.

Mr. Marciano Viri, current Dance Director of CEU Folk Dance Troupe and a former Dance Master of the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, will be the resource speaker in three of the Season 2 episodes.

A celebrated dance choreographer in the Philippines, Mr. Viri choreographed the opening number of the ASEAN Golden Anniversary Celebration in Manila in 2017.
