2020, Calgary – Philippine Consul General (PCG) to Calgary Zaldy Patron and Labor Attaché Atty. Margarita Victorino
of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in
Vancouver held a dialogue with the officers of Canadian Association of
Professional Immigration Consultants (CAPIC) Prairie Chapter on 26 October 2020.
The
dialogue, which was requested by CAPIC, focused on the implementation of the Philippines’
overseas employment policy.
Atty.
Victorino explained to CAPIC the Philippines’ employment agency licensing
requirements, the roles of the Philippine recruitment agency (PRA) and foreign
recruitment agency (FRA) in the recruitment of Filipino temporary foreign
workers (TFW) in Canada, and the support given by the Philippine Government for
Filipino TFW. She also briefed CAPIC about the status of the International
Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS), a program created by the International
Organization for Migration (IOM) which is being piloted between the Philippines
and Canada (Alberta and Saskatchewan).
Consul
General Patron, on the other hand, discussed the assistance that the PCG
extends to Filipinos who have lost their TFW status in Canada.
CAPIC were represented at the dialogue by Mr. Dory Jade (Chief Executive Officer), Ms. Lisa De Leon (Chair, Prairie Chapter), Mr. Marjorie Newman (Prairie Chapter), and Ms. Jean Toews (Prairie Chapter).
