Calgary, 20 May 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Calgary will either lead or participate in various public events to celebrate the 124th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Philippine Independence on 11-12 June 2022.
The series of events will start with the Palarong Pinoy to be held at Prairie Wind Parks, Calgary, on 11 June 2022, Saturday, at 10:00 AM. The whole-day event, which will feature traditional FIlipino games, will be led by PIOCC Sulong Kalayaan Society (SKS) and The FIlipino Champions of Canada (TFCC).
At 6:00 PM of the same day, the PCG will hold its Philipine Independence Day Tagalog Mass at the St. Michael Catholic Community at 800 85th St SW, Calgary, AB T3H 4C7. This will be the second year that this Special Philippine Independence Day Mass will be held for the Filipino community.
On 12 June 2022, Sunday, the PCG will lead two flag raising ceremonies.
The first one will be held at 10:00 AM at the Calgary Municipal Hall in partnership with PIOCC-SKS and TFCC. The flag raising ceremony at the Calgary Municipal Hall has been going on for several years now.
Afterward, the PCG will proceed to Nose Creek Regional Park, Airdrie, Alberta, to lead another flag raising ceremony at the Dr. José Rizal Monument at 12:00 NN. It will be the first flag raising event that will take place at the Rizal Monument after its unveiling to the public on 23 October 2021. The PCG-led Rizal Monument Project was undertaken in partnership with the Airdrie City Council, Filipino Airdrie Association, and Rizal Monument Project Team.
The PCG is co-organizing the flag raising ceremony at the Rizal Monument with PIOCC-SKS, TFCC, Filipino Airdrie Association, and Filipino Women’s League. The ceremony is part of a whole day Picnic at the Park that will start at 10:00 AM and last the whole day.
